Dr Chengalroyan is a dedicated pharmacist currently practicing in a public sector regional hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. She obtained her B Pharm degree at Rhodes University and completed her M Pharm and PhD at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
Her research interest is focused on driving positive change within the pharmacy profession in a South African context. The findings from her research have highlighted aspects in achieving expanded healthcare coverage particularly from a primary healthcare (PHC) level. Her research also highlighted the clear benefit of incorporating pharmacists as PHC providers and the introduction of collaborative care models. She co-supervises numerous research studies at University of KwaZulu Natal, which is focused on promoting the safe and rational use of essential medicines in the public sector. She is the project coordinator of the Ward Pharmacy Program in a regional hospital in KwaZulu Natal that intends to expand the roles of pharmacists within wards and departments. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Chengalroyan is also the vice-chair of SAAHIP and an executive committee member of PSSA KZN Coastal Branches, fostering professional development and advocacy.
