Leonie Deysel

Leonie Deysel is an experienced hospital pharmacy leader with extensive experience in pharmaceutical services within the public healthcare sector. She currently serves as Pharmacy Manager at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, a role she has held since 2016, where she oversees pharmacy operations and contributes to the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmaceutical care.

She obtained her Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from Potchefstroom University in 1997 and later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Pharmacy Management (Cum Laude) from the University of Limpopo in 2010. Her career at Steve Biko Academic Hospital spans more than two decades, beginning with her internship in 1998, followed by roles as Pharmacist (1999), Drug Controller (2005), and ultimately Pharmacy Manager.

Leonie’s contributions to hospital pharmacy and healthcare management have been widely recognised. She was Runner-up in the Pharmacist of the Year Award by the South African Association of Hospital and Institutional Pharmacists (SAAHIP) in 2002 and received the Khanyisa Award in the Managers Category in 2007. She has also received several Service Excellence Awards at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, including runner-up in the Managers Category (2006 and 2016) and Project Category Winner in 2012 and 2016.

Through her leadership and commitment to service excellence, Leonie continues to play a key role in strengthening hospital pharmacy practice and advancing pharmaceutical services within the public health system.
